Zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coating is an innovative steel finish offered by Valmont Tubing. Produced to ASTM A787 Type 6, our zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated tubing provides extended corrosion and scratch resistance in severe environments and is a smart alternative to stainless and traditional heavy galvanized coatings. Stainless offers outstanding surface quality but may be too expensive for an application while galvanized offers affordability but may lack the extended coating durability required. Our zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coating options offer both affordability AND durability!
Valmont offers the zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy coating on round tubing sizes up to 12.75" OD along with special shapes and square and rectangle sizes up to 6.00".
With environmentally friendly chromium free options available, our zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy coated tubing has a coating weight that is up to 1/6 of the coating weight of post hot-dip zinc steel providing a uniform surface condition for superior forming, welding and painting of the tubing.
After 2160 hours of salt spray testing per ASTM B117, the following pictures show the superior corrosion resistance that our Valmont tubing produced using the zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy coated steel (see Sample A) provides against tubing produced with a zinc coating, chromate treatment, acrylic top coat and painted ID (see Sample B).
